Er zijn weinig mensen zo productief als jij wanneer het echt nodig is. Je ontdekte al vroeg dat je druk nodig hebt om het meeste uit jezelf te halen, en geen deadline is je dan ook te gek. Wanneer niemand anders het afkrijgt klopt men bij jou aan, en daar ben je – terecht – best trots op.
Toch is jouw productiviteit niet op elk moment zomaar op te roepen. Projecten waar je maanden de tijd voor hebt stel je uit tot het moment waarop je echt moet beginnen. Het lukt je meestal wel, maar het vraagt wel veel van je. Je manier van werken levert je soms net iets teveel stress op, ookal voel je je goed nadat je een project hebt afgerond. Persoonlijke projecten, zoals het schrijven van een boek of het starten van een eigen bedrijf, staan al jaren op je lijstje. Maar omdat daar nooit echt druk op zit, komt het er waarschijnlijk nooit van.

Tip 1: Maak een to-do lijst
Yes, make yourself an old fashioned to-do list with check boxes and everything. List everything, big and small, that you have to do for your entire day; break big activities into smaller bits if necessary. When you have a looming project that’s bogging you down and making you unproductive in other areas, tackle it first. Finishing the largest item on your list of things to do will make you feel extra productive and give you the boost to do other things you’ve been pushing to the side.
- If your “big project” is something that can’t be done in one sitting, make a list of small parts of it that you can accomplish today. Don’t worry about completing the entire thing, but take steps now so that doing so in the future is a breeze.
